Saraswati Vidya Mandir was started in 1976 with the noble intention of providing quality education to children from underprivileged backgrounds. The founders, Mr. Vilas Shankar Pawar and Mrs. Shobhana Vilas Pawar, realized that there were very few municipal schools in the remote Bhatwadi area and children had to travel long distances to get education in an English medium school. To address this need they started Saraswati Vidya Mandir (English Medium) in their own home with just a few students.

From such humble beginnings the school has grown into a fine educational institution with its very own building constructed in 1991 and serving over 2600 students in both English and Semi English mediums from Nursery to Grade 10. This is possible due to the dedication and hard work of the founders, trustees, teachers and parents who have supported the school over all these years.

At present the school is run by the 'Shri Vilas Shankar Pawar Vidya Prasarak Trust', under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Vijay Vilas Pawar, Chairman and Mrs. Deepali Vijay Pawar, Managing Trustee.
Mr. Vijay Vilas Pawar is a successful businessman for the past 23 years.
Mrs. Deepali Pawar is a computer engineer who left her job to devote full time to the school.
Together they believe education is the driving force for national development. Every child has the right to good education irrespective of their background. They have adopted few orphan and under privileged children and are sponsoring their education. Their aim is to start many more such schools in the future.
